Things to know about treating autism with acupuncture

It seems that I am always apologizing for not keeping up with postings and not posting pictures of the progress that has been happening. I have gotten help from windows and other sources but it still is not repaired right. If anyone knows why I can not get pictures into my post please let me know. It started when I updated to windows 10 and it gives a http error every time
Enough of that. The progress is going slow due to funds but I am very glad to say the property will be paid off in three more months. I have had four families come out to view the farm and one family is due in from Connecticut on April 18. A new driveway is almost cut in and the stone will be added as soon as I save up the money. I am going to try to place the photos into our facebook page but I need to learn how. It is terrible to be such an old goat.
My acupuncturist sent me a couple of links to youtube videos on treating autism with acupuncture. My daughter had one treatment which she said helped her calm down but she didn’t want to go back. She said that she didn’t feel the needles, so that surprised me. I’ll try to import the connects but if I can not I type them below. eJSakRdk

Hope they work.

News article by the Transylvania Times

I would like to thank the Transylvania Times for their recent article about our project. The article has brought a few contacts with local people that would like to help with our dream. Their backgrounds and specialties will be a great help with all that needs to be done. A special thanks to Park Baker, the staff writer.
It will be awhile before I will be able to post again. Since updating to windows 10, I have been having problems with posting pictures and the pictures that were in past post have disappeared. This computer of mine is going in for repairs and hopefully will be fixed quickly. Thanks for your understanding.

Don’t know what to call this post but I hope it helps at least one person

Thought I would just post a couple of pictures taken from the very top of the property showing the valley with the fog rolling in and out but for some reason it will not allow me to. So I think I need to share something about myself. Hopefully, it will wake a few people up and help them share themselves with at least one other person but first I would like everyone to check out website called: “Operation Meaningful Life”. It could help with raising your child and it was developed by a very caring parent of an autistic child. So please check this site out.

Christmas time was never one of my favorite times of the year while growing up and it still isn’t. I grew up with very caring parents who worked hard to provide for their family. My father was a Washington DC police officer who, unlike what the news portrays police to be now, he was a well-respected officer to those in the community he served. I remember going down to his precient when I was around 8 yrs old and people and shop owners would ask me if officer Bean was my father. When I said yes, they told me what a great friend he was to everyone from children to the elderly. My father was blind to people’s color as well as social status and he taught me to accept people for what they were. To treat people with respect until they lost your respect and I have tried to live up to this. Every life matters. I have never let too many people get close to me and now that I am ancient, I wish I had. I lost my father a few years age to alzheimer’s and now it’s my mothers time. My daughter and I took a trip back up to DC to see her a few weeks ago because we wanted to see her again while she might still know us. It was well worth the trip.
Christmas time seems to make people think of others and wanting to help change their lives for the better. Each of us has the ability to change at least one person’s life in some way. There is a tv commercial showing now that I think is great and I hope everyone sees it over and over again. It shows a young girl with some help from others putting up a Christmas tree on a neighbor’s front yard and then on Christmas the kids find presents under that tree for them while the old man (neighbor) looks out the window smiling at the girl. It is one of the few commercials that are worth anything. Small things can have a very large impact on someones life.

I guess this old man should stop rambling on. The point I was trying to make is, please if you are able to show someone that you care about them please do. And don’t limit this just to this time of the year, let the child within you come out everyday and always see just the good in others. All life matters Look at life through your child-like eyes. Happy Holidays!!!!!!!

Oh! Will someone please send a comment to our web page. We were hacked by overseas websites and I think that I have stopped it. What I don’t know is, that after blocking a number of IP address, did I mistakenly block out people here in the States. We haven’t had any comments left on our website since the blocks.

Thanks again and hug your children every chance you get, whether they are one or eighty because that will be the memory that they will carry with them throughout their life.

I have recently talked with a few parents with younger autistic children and they asked how I handled IEP’s and teachers that were not informed about autism. Another topic that interested them was my experience with my daughters fixations, desires and wants. So I guess I’ll try to explain what my daughter’s mother and I tried to do for her.

Remember one very important thing and that is that all children are different, so as parents we try different things all the time. As far as the IEP’s go, learn what the federal government requires the school system to provide and also what your state and county require. But you as a parent, you know what your child needs. If you have a connection with your child’s current teacher ask her or him to be at your next IEP meeting and ask them to recommend a teacher for the next school year. That helped us out a lot, because we needed a teacher that would work with us and let us know what we needed to do to help our daughter at home. Her mom did a great job at home.

My daughter has had, and still has, her fixations which change from time to time. They were used to help her learn. We would take her to the library and get as many books that covered that subject and early on read them to her. When she was able to read, she did so. She has become my source of many different topics and has now become my teacher (I have hated reading all my life, but know how important it is to learning). Use their fixations to help them learn.

Most importantly, never tell a child or let anyone else tell them that they can not achieve something they want to do.My daughter was always told that she could accomplish anything she wanted but she needed to know that she might not be able to do it as good, or as easy, or as quickly as someone else. Because we are individuals and as such do things and accomplished things differently. If you tell someone over and over that they can’t do something, sooner or later they will believe it and stop trying. That applies to handicapped and non-handicapped individuals. Encourage, guide and assist them in whatever way you can.

Your child will find out on their own what they can or can’t do, so let them. One example that I’ll share with you: my daughter wanted to learn to drive and that one was hard for me. I told her that I would teach her, if and only if, she was able to focus totally on driving. Whenever she was with me, I would point out other drivers mistakes and what could happen in an accident. I would also teach her to drive on the property to be used for the group home, I had already cut in some roads although rough, they would do. I have to say that on days that she was able to stay focused, she did rather well. But when she could not focus, she didn’t. After almost two years, she told me that she didn’t want to drive because she knew that she couldn’t stay focused all the time. She said that she didn’t want to hurt anyone while driving unfocused. She is a great kid (almost 31).

One last thing, You are your child’s best teacher but also they can be your best teacher. Learn from each other and teach each other. Have fun and enjoy whatever you do together.

How to get on our waiting list and Helpful Websites

I have been receiving a number of questions on a variety of subjects but there have been a few that seem to be repeating. So I will try to answer a few of them.

The first one:

How do I get my child’s name on Swallowtail Summit’s waiting list?

We have a very simple method just email us your contact information.
Please include the child’s name, your address and phone number. But remember to always update this information whenever it changes. Please get on the waiting list as soon as possible. The way our list works is: when a vacancy exist, we will notify the first one on the list. If that person is not ready at that time, we will go to the next one but the first person remains in the same spot.

The second one:

Are there any other websites that would help with questions about raising a child with autism?

I am by far no authority on how to raise an autistic child, my daughter will be 31 shortly. We sought out help where ever we could find it. Now there seems to be more information available. Please look up this website ( they are a great source of info covering many subjects. I strongly suggest looking over the following topics.
1. The 10 Must-have documents for parents
of children with special needs.
2. 15 Indispensable Websites for Parents of Children with
3. Two Congressional Bills That Can Help With Special Needs

I will try to cover more topics in other postings but I do hope this helps. Remember, you as parents, are your child’s first and best advocates. Please do not delay in placing your child’s name on some groups waiting list because most list are long and vacancies are few. When contacting a group home, ask them how their list works because not all work the same.

Please support SwallowTail Summit Farms in spreading what we are trying to do and also through donations no matter how small. Our existence depends on you.

Thank you

The right questions?

I have been receiving a lot of inquires asking for information.  The problem is that the individuals do not ask a specific question. I am not sure if they are asking about the group home and farm or about autism. Please help me out because I do not what to mislead anyone. If I can not find an answer to anyone’s question, I will try to find someone who can. If anyone wants to talk directly with me, please call me at 828-551-5808. The phone service at my home is extremely poor; it rings in some of the time but not always. It will take messages 99% of the time and I will return your call. Sharing the progress of the group home and helping others navigate the rollercoaster ride of raising a child with autism is what I am here for.

For those who think they will need a group home for their child at a latter date even if it will be years down the line, please place their name on some group home’s waiting list. Most group homes have a very large waiting list. Protect your child’s future NOW.

Photo Display Of The Work Being Done

Hope these photos give a glimpse of what is going on at the farm.

Don’t now what happened to the pictures that were displayed in this post but since upgrading to windows 10 they disappeared. Now, I can not post any pictures in my media files or post. Have tried different things to repair the problem but without success. This computer will be taken in to an expert real soon. Please bear with me and when fixed, I will repost the pictures along with new ones.

I don’t know if anyone would call this a post but I guess that I just need to clear my head. It has been raining almost everyday of this week, in fact I just returned from a walk in the rain. The rain was light and misty and it gets extremely dark here in the mountains this late at night but the sounds of the water rushing over the small waterfalls and the sounds of the night creatures help me refocus and think about things that bother me. You see, being raised in Washington DC then coming here to the NC mountains has changed me into a true nature loving country boy. And my daughter just loves the peace, the beauty, and the calmness that this area offers anyone who learns to embrace all that nature has to offer. This time of year is the start of my daughter’s least favorate season of the year which is winter. Winter does away with her best activate which is hunting for butterfly eggs or caterpillars to raise and release, she is natures helper and I am hers. We get some strange looks from people when they see us looking all over different tree leaves in the Pisgah Forest, Dupont State park and even on the roadside but it is the time we both love. In fact, that is what we did today while it wasn’t raining and today I actual found the caterpillar. To beat her at finding one is a rarity, she has the eye sight of a eagle and knows on what tree and where to look. To help her cope with winter, I try to get her to accept all the changes of the seasons as a life cycle that nature uses to refresh and renew itself. And winter is like all of us needing to sleep enabling our body to help heal and grow; spring is like us just waking up in the morning with renewed energy to start the day; and finally fall being like early evening when our body starts to unwind and slow down. All living things and nature need to go through this type of cycle to cope and go on. If anyone would have told me that I would view life in this way when I was younger,I would told them off. But my daughter and others like her have taught me what is important in life and that is to see the beauty in the most simple things and to love the ones around you. It is not what you have or want you want to have but what good you can do for others.

My daughter keeps asking me what happens to her after her parents die, and I keep telling her that the group home will be built. I just hope that it will be. I have always tried to live up to my promises and somehow I will live up to this one. Thanks for letting me clear my head. Wherever you are when you read this, please take some time to cherish the simple things around you and to let the ones closest to you know that you care and love them, for that is what matters the MOST.

intro to Dr Flechas article: Autism and Oxytocin

Flechas Iodine and… .pdf

While at one of my acupuncture visits my, provider suggested that I read an article written by Dr Flechas. He has a practice in Hendersonville, NC. After reading it, I thought others might benefit from it. So I’ll include the link, hope it helps.
The group home is progressing slowly. We are still clearing the land and hoping to get other individuals interested in helping. If anyone would like to help, please contact us.

Please forgive me but I tried to connect to this link after I published this post and it didn’t work. I copied and pasted it into my post. If anyone knows what I did wrong, please leave a comment. This website is on a wordpress platform.
